Most Influential Hair Accessories Business Leader (USA): Mary D. Ahrens
Hair4Good is committed to improving childrens lives. This energetic, trend setting philanthropist and business owner, Mary Ahrens, has made it her unwavering mission to use her resources for good and has chosen an area to support that’s close to her heart.
(Digital Magazine) Mary Ahrens is a veteran of the hair and personal care industry. She spent over 27 years working for a national brand in the U.S. Mary was fortunate to have held various positions from secretary to corporate officer. She spent her last 15 years at the company as Vice President of Sales, during which time she and her team took their brands to be the market leader in the Hair Goods category.
Although only a few national brands dominate the haircare industry in the US, Mary has found that the combination of innovative, fashion forward products, combined with their philanthropic mission has made Hair4Good a stand out boutique brand. Currently, the company supports six childrens charities: St Judes Research Hospital, Make a Wish, Autism Speaks, Hair We Share, Lifting up Westchester and Circle of Care. Hair4Good donates 50% of its profits to these causes. The company reinvests its remaining profits to fund further growth. This in turn will allow the company to increase its charitable donations.
When Mary’s son was born, she made a promise to help other children and in 2020 she launched Hair4Good with this intention. The company’s mission is to make the world a little better for children in need. Mary’s business benefits from a team of seasoned professionals that prides itself on their family first policy. The team works long hours to support their mission, and they remind each other of the importance of a healthy work-life balance. Everyone is dedicated to making the Hair4Good mission a success. The company’s core values are kindness, collaboration and philanthropy.
As CEO and founder of the company, Mary’s role consists of “a little bit of everything. She’s involved in all facets of the business including product development, design, sourcing and tooling, marketing, sales, and finance.
When asked about her journey as a woman in the world of business Mary attests to her being fortunate. Having her potential recognized at a young age, being the grateful recipient of valuable guidance and being presented with varied opportunities have all contributed to her achievements. Mary believes the keys to success is to continue learning and to strive to improve yourself and your team every day, and to always be kind. The future looks bright for Hair4 Good. The company is looking to launch unique patented items in several categories. They are also formulating a strategic and focused plan to move into brick-and-mortar stores. Of course, Hair4Good’s main priority remains to increase sales and profits to provide further help to their chosen charities.
We close with some final words from Mary: I would like to thank everyone involved in getting us to this point. It has been a herculean effort and everyone’s contribution and kindness is greatly appreciated. Kindness is contagious.
